Hanmer Springs 2

Different daily routine! Up at 07:30 for 08:00 90 minute yoga session with Mary Jo and a group of 4 ladies having their own retreat. Then enjoyed a full organic breakfast prepared by Steve followed by another hours massage from Chara. My shoulders are still tight, so may need further work in the next few days!

Steve lent me one of his fat tyre mountain bikes to get into and around town. I went through my pack contents and selected non essential items which I haven’t used and posted them home. A total of 800g.

The bike helped to get out to the Hammer Hardware store on the north-western edge of Hanmer Springs where I resupplied with gas and bug spray.

In the chip shop, I met Brad and Lisa from Auckland, whom I had seen on the trail. They are walking the South Island TA having quit their jobs and before they start looking for the next ones.

It’s a hot day in Hanmer, in the low 30s, a good day not to be walking. But a fine day to be under shade at another pub. 😊

Body recovery room.
Mobile in Hanmer Springs.
Another evening catchup, Oceane, Stefan, Holger, me.

Hi Richard, sounds as though your well laid plans are paying off. Great scenery and company with a wide range of nationalities in the mix which may add to the fun. Savour every moment of a trip of a lifetime. Love Nick

Wish I was back at the retreat with you rather than here in a rather damp and chilly UK! Weather is a little hotter than when we were there in October. Enjoy the R & R ready for the next part of your tough challenge. Lots of love big brother. Ros xx

Such a good read Richard. You’ve had a good run with the weather (great photos), so hope that holds. Am interested to know what you discarded as not required. 800g lighter, but I assume a full pack of food out of Hanmer! Enjoy those days off.
    All the best

Good to see you drinking the complex carbohydrate recovery drink in the pub! If you’ve lost 4 kg body weight and now 800g pack weight you’re gonna fly
