Chepstow – Tintern

1 July 2025. On the trail again. Travelled by train from Tunbridge Wells to Chepstow via Paddington. Arrived Chepstow 13:15. Initially my pack weighed 14 kg, but no doubt a few kgs added with Tesco shopping at Chepstow. On the Pennine Way I carried too much food, so aiming to cut back. Plenty of villages and towns on the way, so replenishing shouldn’t be a problem.

It’s about 2.5 km to the Sedbury Cliffs overlooking the Severn Road bridge and the start of the path. Walking North up the Wye Valley, the route takes you through varied countryside and initially through a built up area. Only met one walker today. Joanne from Jersey. She was not camping.

Reached Beeches Farm campsites at 18:40. 13km in 3:45 hrs. £10 for hikers. It is near Tintern Abbey which was built in 1131 and lasted until the dissolution of the English Catholic Church in 1536.

The start at Sedbury near Chepstow.

Richard! Wonderful to see you again! Thank you for including me on your travel interest’s group. I love the English countryside, but only get to see it on the telly these days.

I look forward to your blogs. Happy travelling, Di
