2 July 2025. The first night camping is always a bit sleep disrupted. Didn’t help that I was on a slight slope. It is light around 05:00, so I got up around 05:30. Camping routine not sorted out yet, so I wasn’t away until 07:40, along with the DoE students who were already arguing about which way to go. Don’t know what weather forecast they had seen, but a lot were dressed for rain. No sign of that!
The route followed the River Wye, sometimes high and other times along the river back. The first pub stop was after 15 km at Redbrook which I reached at about 12:15. The morning was generally cloudy which was nice for walking. About 22C temperature wise. Left the Boat Inn at 13:50.
Arrived at Monnow Bridge campsite around 16:30. Just under 21km today. Salmon pasta at the La Piccola Italia for dinner.

Hi Richard,
I am thrilled to hear from you again🤩. My best wishes on you new journey 🤗🙏🏻🤍.

Hi Richard
Amazing to see you on Offas Dyke. My name is Phil we met on the Pennine Way in June 2022. I was walking with my son and then my daughter we had dinner together in Hawes. What a coincidence I am also on Offas Dyke at the moment although several days ahead of you. Currently in Buttington. Let me know if you need any trail advice
cheers

Fleece Meadow in Kington is great. You can soak your feet in the river !
Panpunton campsite at Knighton is good with kettle and microwave
Mellington hall allows walkers to camp. Nice site. Plus the hotel offers reasonable bar meal. It’s near Brompton crossroads right on the path
cheers

Fleece Meadow at Kington is great, you can bathe your feet in the river. And Dave is really helpful.Panpunton campsite at Knighton is nice, with kettle and microwave. Eat at the Horse and Jockey in Town
Mellington Hall just before Brompton crossroads is nice and right on the path. You can get reasonably priced meal in the Hall.
Hope you have a good trek. The views have been stunning between Pandy and Welshpool
Cheers Phil
