Llanvetheine – Llanthony

4 July 2025. Up at 06:50, away at 07:05. Getting the routine sorted. After a couple of km, I was back on the trail which was mainly across fields and short sections on quiet single track country lanes.

On reaching Llangattock Lincoed, Tim, Steve, Mike, Helen, and Stephanie (Birmingham university friends) were just leaving the Old Rectory BnB. They were staying at Llanthony Port Guest House tonight.

Met Chris coming into Pandy from Pontypridd walking N-S for the 12th time.

From Pandy it was all uphill, climbing to 531m on the moorland. I had lunch at trig point 464. Another set of Gold DoE youngsters were concluding their week.

After a few kms along the ridge, I descended into Llanthony along the Beacons Way. Offa’s Dyke continues along the tops to Hay-on-Wye, so it involves a climb out tomorrow morning. Camped at Court Farm campsite, £5 but no showers.

20 km today with 550m of ascent and almost as much decent.

Dinner (lamb casserole) was had in the Priory bar with the Birmingham University friends. Rain forecast for the night and tomorrow.

hi Richard, years ago Wendy and I did a few sections of the Offa Dike Path. We used day packs and even a taxi ride. It is a very nice trail and it deserves a real hikers approach. You have made nice pictures and familiar names of places to me. Had it not been for an unfortunate incident, I would have loved joining you in the real now. I love following you and walk with you in spirit. Love from Stef
