Hay-on-Wye – Kington

6 July 2025. Up at 05:20, away 07:00. It was a day of three hills. Initially along the River Wye again but then across fields and lanes. Joanne who I met on day one caught me up. 10km in reached St Mary’s Church, Newchurch, with the first hill out of the way. Apparently the churches do well from walkers donations.

Another up out of Newchurch and down into Gladestry. The Royal Oak Pub was opened at 12:00 but I had lunch on small green park bench. Taking to a lady walking her dog the local church here also does walkers refreshments. Seems a common thing.

It was about another 6km from Galdestry to Kington over a hill. The hill climbs ranged from 150-350 m.

Arriving in Kington just before 16:00, the St Mary’s church was proving cream teas on Sunday afternoons in July and August. Silly not to continue the church refreshment theme.

The Fleece Meadow campground behind the recreation ground in Kington provided the basics (£15 a night). Met two other young lads Joe and Sam, who were heading South.

26 km today. Dinner was in The Burton Hotel with the Birmingham University friends.
