    Bodfari – Prestatyn

    16 July 202516 July 2025 by Richard

16 July 2025. Up 04:30 away 05:15. The weather was changing and rain was forecast for later morning, hence the earlier start. We had rain overnight but it was clear while we packed up. We were expecting a less hilly day but ended up with three reasonable climbs. We managed to avoid the worst of … Continue reading Bodfari – Prestatyn

    15 July 202520 July 2025 by Richard

14 July 2025. Up 04:30 away 06:00. Climbed back onto the trail and met Roddy and Yvonne at the Moel Famau car park at 07:30 and continued walking with Roddy. The route followed the Clwydian Range, not quite over every peak but near enough. Nice breeze and good views. We had a couple of breaks … Continue reading Wernog Wood Campsite – Bodfari

    Llangollen – Wernog Wood Campsite

    14 July 202520 July 2025 by Richard

13 July 2025. Up at 04:45, away 06:00. On the way back to the track I took a 40 min detour to visit Dinas Bran Castle ruins which overlooks Llangollen. I left my pack at the bottom! A local guy who says he goes up daily said it was only operational for 16 years. The … Continue reading Llangollen – Wernog Wood Campsite

    Tyn-y-Coed – Llangollen

    13 July 2025 by Richard

12 July 2025. Up at 04:40 away 06:00. Undulating today, climbing between 150m to 380m. Chirk Castle was visible from a few hills away. Built in 1310 and later became home to the Myddelton family for over 400 years. The technical marvel today was the Pontcysyllte aqueduct. Built 1795-1805. Had a lunch stop at the … Continue reading Tyn-y-Coed – Llangollen

    Four Crosses- Tyn-y-Coed

    12 July 2025 by Richard

11 July 2025. Up at 04:45, away at 06:25. 31C forecast today. The initial stretch into Llanmynech was along the banks of the old Montgomery Canal again for about 4 km. Signs indicate a dredging and restoration project is under way. It must be a big project as a couple of new bridges will be … Continue reading Four Crosses- Tyn-y-Coed

    Buttington Bridge – Four Crosses

    11 July 202511 July 2025 by Richard

10 July 2025. Up at 05:20 , away 06:50. Faced with a dilemma today. Campsites so far have been conveniently spaced. But today I either I walk about 27 km or about 12 km to Four Crosses. I am leaning towards the shorter option as temperatures are due to get to 29C today. Not keep … Continue reading Buttington Bridge – Four Crosses

    Mellington Hall – Buttington Bridge

    10 July 202511 July 2025 by Richard

9 July 2025. Easy start this morning. Up at 05:45 and Nick picked me up at 07:15 and drove me to his hotel where we sat down to a full Welsh breakfast. We were walking at 08:30. Initially the walk was fairly flat. We had a pork pie lunch stop at 12:30 at Beacon Hill … Continue reading Mellington Hall – Buttington Bridge

    Knighton – Mellington Hall

    9 July 2025 by Richard

8 July 2025. Up at 05:15, away 06:30. Only 30 mins to get up the hill. The first of what would be 6 climbs and descents. Talking to walkers on is portion of the track it seems to me the most hilliest. Most of today’s walk follows the earth embankments of the Dyke. Joanne passed … Continue reading Knighton – Mellington Hall

    Kington – Knighton

    9 July 2025 by Richard

7 July 2025. Up at 05:15. Away 07:00. Rain overnight. Apparently many people get confused between these they names. With only one letter difference, it’s easy to see why. Rolling hills today. Even had a stretch of Offa’s Dyke mounds to walk along. Some with highly overgrown patches. Stopped at the half way point for … Continue reading Kington – Knighton

    Hay-on-Wye – Kington

    8 July 2025 by Richard

6 July 2025. Up at 05:20, away 07:00. It was a day of three hills. Initially along the River Wye again but then across fields and lanes. Joanne who I met on day one caught me up. 10km in reached St Mary’s Church, Newchurch, with the first hill out of the way. Apparently the churches … Continue reading Hay-on-Wye – Kington
