Jump Back: Queenstown to Lake Tekapo

28 Feb. This was a relocation day. Up early to catch the intercity coach at 08:05 from Queenstown back to Lake Tekapo arriving at 12:25. A good day to be travelling rather than walking as it rained with high winds for most of the morning. The coach was nearly full, so definitely worthwhile booking at this time of year. Tekapo was less busy than last week. Tourists weren’t hanging around too long with the very windy conditions. Not a day to be on the mountain tops around here. Easy seating in the Greedy Cow cafe for avocado & mushrooms on toast for lunch.

In the afternoon I sorted out the bike hire and logistics with Annie who runs Bespoke Bike Tours in Tekapo. She provides a great service to TA walkers, shuttling people, back packs and bikes to make their journeys work. Anara was going to have her own bike and a car, but I needed one of Annies hire bikes to collect and return, so we worked out a plan for that, along with transferring Anara’s car.

Anara picked me up from Tekapo at 17:30 and we drove to Twizel where we have a bach for the weekend as a cycling base. Dinner was local salmon at Shawtys Restaurant.
