1 Mar. With a fine day forecast and a shorter distance to cover than yesterday, it was going to be a relaxed day. At 09:30 we left Twizel initially by main road to join the Ohau canal road. Biking over this section it was best to follow the Alps2Ocean bike trail as the track surface was better for bikes than the route of the TA trail. They both cover the same ground and same key points.
There were quite a few cycling groups and at one stop we got talking to Janet, Bill, Malcolm and Trevor. They were from Auckland and Taupo doing the Alps2Ocean route on electric bikes. No TA walkers seen today.
We cycled past tomorrow’s trail start point for the next 5 days to finish at Lake Ohau Alpine Lodge at 13:30. About 43 km covered today. Annie was collecting bikes from a group as well as mine so we had a shuttle back to Twizel mid afternoon.
I food shopped for the next week before Anara and I dined at the local Thai restaurant. Most of the other restaurants are closed on a Sunday.

Looks absolutely beautiful Richard.

Hope you didn’t get too saddle sore on the bike. Must have been a bit of a rest for the legs.

Feet felt supercharged walking afterwards.
