Hawes to Tan Hill

15 June 2022. Had a good night’s sleep. It was a cool night with little wind and the tent was wet with condensation (more weight to carry). Walked the 15 minutes into Hawes from the campsite at 0720. Got a few food provisions at the Spar shop and was back on the route at 0800. Today was 29km with over 750m of climb. Through Hardraw with a 7 km climb up Black Moss Moor to Great Shunner Fell (716m), where I meet up with Fred, Okey and Geoff (1100-1115 hrs). From there it was down into Thwaite. The cafe there was closed so I continued to Keld for a couple of pots of tea and a bacon roll at the cafe at Rukins campsite (1400-1545). Good long break with Fred, Okey and Steve.

The last section of the day was the 6km up Stonesdale Moor to Tan Hill Inn (536m) where we were able to camp at the back of the pub (£10) and make use of shower and toilet facilities. For once the end of the day was an ascent rather than a descent. Nice given a 29km day. Steve and Charlotte had booked pub rooms but I was camping with Fred and Okey. Sunny calm evening.
