9 July 2025. Easy start this morning. Up at 05:45 and Nick picked me up at 07:15 and drove me to his hotel where we sat down to a full Welsh breakfast. We were walking at 08:30.
Initially the walk was fairly flat. We had a pork pie lunch stop at 12:30 at Beacon Hill Fort. That was the highest point on the route today (400m). Just the one climb from 80m and a descent to 70m. We met Joanne at Beacon Hill and walked with her on the descent.
Arrived 14:30 at The Green Dragon pub after 19 km. The pub has a campsite, so that was me for the day. After a couple of pints of fluid, Nick walked on to his BnB in Four Crosses, about 12 km further on. It took Nick another 3 hours.
The pub does food, so vegetable lasagne with a Butty Bach beer made the difference.

Hi Richard. Back in February 2020 a friend (Sheila) and I met you at Manuka Hut when you were walking the TA (Te Araroa) in New Zealand. And then, out of the blue, you pop up in my email walking Offa’s Dyke Path. I’m so chuffed to see you do this as I’m hoping to do the Coast to Coast Walk and Offa’s Dyke Path next year. I’m so enjoying your trip, the countryside is wonderful and it’s quite different from Wainwright’s Coast to Coast, and that’s one reason why I’d like to do the two walks. I see you have changed your Tarptent, a Double Rainbow? I bought one during Covid lock-down and I love it, though it’s untested during heavy rain and strong winds. After you’ve completed the walk, I’d like talk to you about the logistics, etc if that is ok with you…packing, camping all the way through, etc. Anyway, enjoy the trip and fingers crossed for good weather. Cheers Fiona Butterick
