Buttington Bridge – Four Crosses

10 July 2025. Up at 05:20 , away 06:50. Faced with a dilemma today. Campsites so far have been conveniently spaced. But today I either I walk about 27 km or about 12 km to Four Crosses. I am leaning towards the shorter option as temperatures are due to get to 29C today. Not keep on wild camping this time due to all the bugs. Many biting horse flies around.

Buttington Bridge had to be crossed to pick up the trail. Quite dangerous as it is a busy A road with no foot path. Today was very flat and either walking the flood protection mounds by the river or along the Montgomery Canal towpath. Finally across some fields along the line of the Dyke mounds, where I met a couple from Bristol who I had seen several times over the last few days. I had seen them at breakfast in the Dragon with Nick. They had based themselves in Montgomery and were daywalking sections of the Dyke path. They had a name for me: “hat man”.

I arrived 11:30 at Four Crosses and found the Hayfield Glamping and Camping.

Phil showed me around. He had spent about 6 years in New Zealand near Thames.

Ended up being 13 km.

Four Crosses has no pub, but the garage Morrisons shop is well stocked. Couple of tins for dinner tonight.
