Walking from home

5 Jan. As I live close to the TA trail passing through Wellington, I had the idea of checking out my new boots on the TA section south to Island Bay. Just done that this afternoon. 15km with about 400m of climb in 3.5 hours. Easy walking though on pavement and well formed walkways. Oh yes, the boots are fine, no hot spots, but they have tougher tests to come.

Central Wellington, (for politicians).
Southern Walkway, overlooking the hospital and hospice (centre). 2nd home for the last year!
Island Bay, end of the TA Trail on North Island.

Good luck and enjoy the journey. Nothing is put in front of us that we cannot deal with. We’ll enjoy watching from the other side of the world

All the best Richard, what a lovely thing to do. I’m sure Jenny will be with you all the way. So sorry to hear your news. I’ll happily donate to your two cancer charities that you have nominated. I donate 10% of my bagpiping profits to charity each year. Last year it went to London Zoo in support of the work they do for conservation. But this year, for the first 3 months and to cover the duration of your walk, I will donate my profits to your nominated cancer charities. I’ll see if I can do some fund raising too so that I can boost the amount. Not sure how, maybe a bit of busking on the streets of Windsor. It seems appropriate, particularly as I learnt to play the bagpipes in New Zealand. Good luck with the new boots.
