    Malham to Horton-in-Ribblesdale

    14 June 202229 October 2022 by Richard

13 June 2022. Patrick camped next to me. He had walked from Ponden in a day. He is walking Lands End to John O Groates for the 9th time and aiming to do it in 63 days. At 71 year, that is just amazing! Leaving the campsite at 0815 in a light drizzle, I had … Continue reading Malham to Horton-in-Ribblesdale

    Thornton-in-Craven to Malham

    13 June 202229 June 2022 by Richard

13 June 2022. A relatively easy day across farmland and with good footpaths. Nigel dropped me off in Thornton-in-Craven and I was walking at 1015. While getting my boots on, Gail and Jenny passed me. They were doing a section over 4 days. The first few kms were up over farmland and then down onto … Continue reading Thornton-in-Craven to Malham

    Ponden Mill to Thornton-in -Craven

    12 June 202229 October 2022 by Richard

11 June 2022. Tonight I am staying with Nigel (friend from university days) and Eileen. They live about 30 mins off the Pennine Way, so I timed my 0830 start for a 1500 ETA in Thornton-in-Craven where Nigel was going to pick me up. It was about 9 km in 2.5 hours over Keighley Moor … Continue reading Ponden Mill to Thornton-in -Craven

    Hebden Bridge to Ponden Mill

    11 June 202229 October 2022 by Richard

10 June 2022. After saying farewells to Stefan, I walked out of Hebden Bridge at 0830 following the Hebden Bridge Pennine Way Loop, up through Heptonstall (steep climb). A very scenic area. The Pennine Way goes to the west of the town, but the loop is well worth taking for the scenery and amenities. I … Continue reading Hebden Bridge to Ponden Mill

    Diggle to Hebden Bridge

    10 June 202229 October 2022 by Richard

9 June 2022. We spent a comfortable night at the Diggle Hotel run by Sue and Billy. We were fortunate to get the last room. All the B&Bs I phoned were booked up. I thought for the time of year it would be easy to get accommodation a day or so in advance. Talking to … Continue reading Diggle to Hebden Bridge

    Crowden to Standedge/Diggle

    9 June 202210 June 2022 by Richard

8 June 2022. It rained for most of the night but it was dryish when we packed up tents for a 0700 departure. A 10 min walk from the campsite got us back on the Pennine Way, up the valley of Crowden Great Brook, an impressive glacial creation. From there onto Black Hill at 582m, … Continue reading Crowden to Standedge/Diggle

    Edale to Crowden

    8 June 202229 October 2022 by Richard

7 June 2022. It gets light at around 0430, so as we were awake with a reasonably long day ahead, we didn’t hang around. The route took us up Hope Valley, across Kinder Scout and Bleaklow down into Crowden. We were off at 0700, stopped for lunch on the Snake Pass road at 1115 for … Continue reading Edale to Crowden

Pennine Way – London to Edale

    7 June 202229 October 2022 by Richard

6 June 2022. I am on a trip to the UK from home in NZ, three years after my last visit. Life has been busy, so another long distance trail appealed. The plan for the next three weeks is to walk the Pennine Way. A London tube strike didn’t help on start the journey to … Continue reading Pennine Way – London to Edale
